Shells on Garter-stitch Background

The shells on a garter stitch background  |  It is a unique stitch that will give your project a wonderful textured look. This knitting pattern is quite difficult to do if you are a knitting beginner.

Material Used
Yarn: Katia baby.
Needle Size: 2.25mm.
- K, P: Knit, purl.
- P2tog: Purl 2 sts together: P2tog.
- P2tog tbl: Purl 2 sts together through the back loop
- Shell stitch: Insert right-hand needle into the front of the stitch 5 rows below the 3rd stitch on the left hand needle, and draw through a long loop; slip this loop onto the right-hand needle, then knit the next stitch) 6 times, taking all 6 loops from the same stitch below. 
Pattern (no garter stitch border).
With color A, cast on 44 stitches (Multiple of 14 sts, +2) and knit one row.
Rows 1 through 6: With color B, knit all sts.
Row 7 - Right side: With color A, k9, * shell stitch, k8; repeat from * to last 7 sts, shell stitch, k1.
Row 8: With color A, k1, * (p2tog-tbl) 3 times, p1, (p2tog) 3 times, k7; rep from * to last st, k1.
Rows 9 through 14: With color B, knit all sts.
Row 15: With color A, k2, * shell stitch, k8; repeat from * to end.
Row 16: With color A, k1, * k7, (p2tog-tbl) 3 times, p1, (p2tog) 3 times; rep from * to last st, k1.
Repeat rows 1 - 16 till necessary for completing your project.

  1. At what point or how do you cast on colour B? It is not clear in the video how you attach that colour to begin

  2. To change colors, simply drop the old yarn and, tie the new yarn around it and start the next row with the new yarn.
